Who we are

Float Point turns AI efficiency research into software that runs on hardware you own.

The short version

Two companies, one problem.

Nothing Inc. is a research company working on the efficiency problem in AI: how to make large models dramatically smaller and faster without giving up the accuracy that made them worth running. That work is deep, technical, and mostly invisible to the people who would benefit from it.

Float Point is the other half: the applications layer. We take that research and put it to work — in the software we're building, and in the hands-on technical work we do for businesses today. Nothing Inc. works out how much intelligence you can fit on a single machine. Float Point works out what to do with it once it fits.

Why local-first

Most AI products ask you to send your most sensitive material to a company you have no relationship with, stored on hardware you will never see, governed by a policy that can change next quarter. For a great many professionals, that is not a trade-off they are permitted to make — and for many more, it is simply one they would rather not.

We think the answer is not a stronger promise. It is a different architecture: put the intelligence on the customer's own infrastructure, so the question of who else can see the data stops being a question at all. Efficiency research is what makes that architecture practical instead of aspirational.

What we do today

The day-to-day work of the business is custom solutions: consulting with businesses on their technical problems and then building the fix. It is deliberately broad work, because the useful version of it is defined by what a client actually needs rather than by what we have already built.

That is not a sideline to the products — it is the foundation under them. Solving real problems for real businesses is what tells you which ones are worth building properly.

What we're building

Ivan is a locally hosted AI receptionist and assistant for professional practices that hold confidential client records. Classic IDE is an AI-assisted coding environment for macOS and Windows that runs a multi-agent framework on the GPU already in your machine, fully offline if you want it.

Neither is generally available yet. Ivan is being prepared for a comprehensive pilot with an attorney's office; Classic IDE is still in development. There is more coming that we're not ready to talk about.

Who runs it

Float Point is led by Jonathan Hatch, who also founded Nothing Inc. The two companies are the research and the application of the same idea.

Before this, he was Lead Engineer of LetsBuySpiritAir — the social media movement that was picked up by almost every news outlet and drew millions of views. He took the project over and was the only technical person on it, serving millions of requests over a single week on an $11 VPS.

That is the whole thesis in one story. Most people meet traffic like that by spending their way out of it. Making an $11 box carry it instead takes the same instinct that says a law firm shouldn't need a datacenter to answer its phone.

The legal bit
